REMOVAL OF 6K+ HONEY BEES SWARM FROM COMB/NEST IN WALL
OUR LOCAL COUNTY AGENT, UNABLE TO LOCATE THE QUEEN/NEST, WAS FORCED TO EXTERMINATE THE HIVE. PRETTY AMAZING HOW MANY JUST POURED OUT OF THAT ROTTEN PIECE OF WOOD — UNABLE TO FLY, AS THEY WERE COVERED IN HONEY. THEY WERE ALL DEAD WITHIN ABOUT 20 MINUTES. **NOTE** BEES ARE ENDANGERED AND PROTECTED SPECIES — REMOVAL OR EXTERMINATION MUST BE DONE BY A LICENSED BEE KEEPER OR COLLECTOR. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME OR YOU COULD FACE A $25000.00 FINE.
October Honey Inspection: pt 3
In this concluding video, we’ve determined that we are not quite ready yet to perform “The Great Hive Robbery II”. ["The Great Hive Robbery I" yielded us almost 6 gallons of pure, raw, beautiful honey, last month. Unfortunately for my YouTube audience, we were not able to film that extraordinary event.] So we reassembled the hive in order to allow the bees to continue capping the honey frames in the upper two medium supers. This was filmed 3 weeks ago, and by now, they may have finished capping the frames. Stay tuned this weekend for the possibility of “The Great Hive Robbery II” . . .

Inspecting the bees
Besides extracting honey, some of the greatest fun a beekeeper can have is inspecting an active hive. That’s what my friend John and I did on a beautiful day in June with the world full of pollen and nectar, the sun shining brightly and the bees going in an out of the hive. They were making honey like crazy but didn’t seem to mind our brief invasion of their world. This video is made from stills shot at various times on the farm and video from my Canon PowerShot A590. The music is from Heavy Mellow via Magnatune. The beekeeping journal is at Honey Dot Comb.
